Mudcloth — known as bògòlanfini in the Bambara language of Mali — is one of the oldest textile traditions in the world. Handwoven and hand-dyed using fermented mud, each pattern was historically used to communicate identity, status, and spiritual protection. The symbols were not decorative. They were language.
